Born in Los Angeles, California, Dr. Ziskrout attended California State University, Los Angeles, majoring in Biological Sciences. He earned numerous academic awards including the Golden Key National Honor Society. Transferring to Pacific University, in Oregon, he graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Vision Science. In 1997, Dr. Ziskrout earned his Doctorate in Optometry from Pacific University College of Optometry. At Pacific, he received several academic and clinical honors. While doing a clinical rotation at the San Diego Naval Hospital, the Naval Commander recognized Dr. Ziskrout’s contributions to the servicemen and servicewomen with a letter of commendation. In the area of pediatrics and binocular vision, his doctoral thesis research pioneered new areas into Attention Deficit Disorder and its potential relationship with eye movements and understanding their complex relationships. As a result, Dr. Ziskrout was invited and presented his research at the American Academy of Optometry, Orlando, Florida.
Post-graduate, Dr. Ziskrout accepted an adjunct clinical faculty position from the University of Houston College of Optometry (UHCO). Prior to that, he served as Chief Resident during his Family Practice Residency at UHCO, which is when he met his future wife and business partner, Dr. Katie Pham. Dr. Ziskrout has been the focus of a multi–part series on Channel 8, Houston’s Public Television Medical Monday program. For many years he served as a distinguished member on the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) as a Senior Supervising Clinical Examiner. In support of optometry, he has given testimony at the State Capitol in Austin, Texas to The House of Representatives regarding optometric laws. As a result, the bill he lobbied for passed, and was signed into law by the governor.
Dr. Ziskrout is recognized as an expert in fitting unique eyes that require complex contact lens designs to improve their challenged vision (such as keratoconus, corneal transplants, RK surgery, corneal trauma, etc.). He is certified as a Paragon CRT specialist, able to reshape corneas via special-designed rigid gas permeable lenses that allow the patient to see throughout the day without wearing glasses or contact lenses.
He enjoys treating and managing eye infections & injuries, dry eyes & allergy eyes, and since 1998 has co-managed LASIK, cataract, and glaucoma surgeries. One of his career highlights includes 7+ years working hand in hand with a select few of Houston’s premier ophthalmologists.
Dr. Ziskrout is an honorably discharged sergeant with the United States Air National Guard. His longtime hobby is TaeKwon-Do (TKD)and is a 4th degree black belt. He has competed and won gold and silver medals at each of the past four United States National ITF TaeKwon-Do Qualifiers which resulted in him earning a spot on TEAM USA TaeKwon-Do, representing America in several world championship TKD events.
Dr. Ziskrout and his lovely and funny wife, Dr. Pham, are blessed with three totally awesome children; A gift greater than vision.
